The Celebration Series from St. George Brewing Company--Coastal Virginia's Oldest Craft Brewery-- commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States. Each beer in the series represents one point in the "Historic Triangle" of Jamestown (London Porter), Williamsburg (English IPA) and Yorktown (Nut Brown Ale). Beer played an essential role in the daily life of the first English settlers at Jamestown in 1607. It was a vital staple, both for nourishment and hydration; it provided a comforting link to home and much-needed calories in the harsh New World. In many ways, those early Virginia brews, similar to our ruby-black St. George Porter, became a symbol of resilience, community, and the beginnings of America’s brewing tradition.

In Colonial Williamsburg, beers such as our English IPA were cornerstones of everyday life. Taverns brewed & served beer with most meals, fueling lively debates among patriots that helped shape the ideals of the American Revolution. From the bustling taverns of Duke of Gloucester Street to the homes of tradesmen and farmers, beer was both sustenance and symbol--an enduring part of Virginia’s Colonial spirit.

For the American revolutionaries at Yorktown, beer was more than a comfort—it was a symbol of perseverance and independence. Brews such as our Nut Brown Ale were traditionally brewed as a tavern’s house beer, which was enjoyed by American and French troops. Made with local grains and crafted by patriotic hands, each pint represented self-reliance and the emerging American identity: a quiet testament to the resolve and unity that forged a nation.
